Internet merchant accounts
An Internet Merchant Account is a vital component of any ecommerce operation. Businesses wishing to accept payments online must have an Internet Merchant Account if they want to accept card payments via the web.
An Internet Merchant Account is similar to a standard Merchant Account (used for 'Chip & Pin' machines), except they only accept payments from a payment gateway service, before depositing the money into your business bank account.
Merchant Account vs Internet Merchant Account
Many clients new to trading online believe they already have an Internet Merchant Account when in fact they only have a Merchant Account. Merchant Accounts typically come with a payment card reader to allow you to take payments in person or over the phone. Internet Merchant Accounts are separate accounts which only accept money from a payment gateway.
The right Internet Merchant Account
Every UK Bank provides Internet Merchant Accounts for their business customers. With most UK Banks providing like for like fee structures and services we usually recommend staying with your bank for their IMA services, especially if you already have a Merchant Account. Other options are available, please speak to our sales team or your project manager for alternative options.
Applying for an account
Although Evolve are unable to apply for the account for you, your Project Manager will be pleased to guide you through the options and process.
